1.

about

Mengers presents En Vivo - Squash 73. Faced with restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic to present the GOLLY album in a live show, Mengers decided to create an audiovisual version with some of the most representative songs from his latest record material.
The title refers to a multi platform adaptation of the Game of Life, a simulator that some believe mimics the functioning of life on Earth as close as it happens in nature thanks to its complex algorithmic mechanics. The members of Mengers pondered about frustration in our current shared time in the world as if this was the product of a game in GOLLY. After 4 singles, GOLLY was officially released on January 22, 2021. Since then it has been widely praised by the public and critics as one of the best Latin American albums of 2021.
For the band it was important that GOLLY could come to life in live shows because that is where it was conceived. In 2019 Mengers began his first tour across Mexico. It was in each of these shows that Mengers decided to experience a new sound very different from the one posed in "I", his first material. That experimentation was later brought into the studio for their next album. In the band's words: “GOLLY makes no sense without thinking that it can be heard live, in the many garages we went to play, in the bars and in all those places that once housed and shaped our sound. GOLLY was born to be played live, we felt that it was something we owed to all those songs. "
The live material is composed of 5 songs: Estrés, Tiempos Suicidas, Papando Bytes, Pantitlán y Fin de la Era, which summarize very briefly what the album itself means: fast raw and unbridled songs full of punk, garage and rage.
For this session, the band decided to use the same musical equipment with which they recorded the original material in order to keep a sound faithful to the album but with the energy of a live show. “Live music takes on another meaning. It is something raw and therefore more real. It combines all your
senses at the same time. It has more to do with the community and the attitude than with the instruments themselves. "
As with the album, GOLLY's live audio was recorded by Hugo Quezada, who also played synthesizers and guitars. While the video was made by Emilio Guerrero, director of many of the best videos of the current effervescent CDMX underground musical scene.
